02/05/12 Storm Silvermane, Guest Speaker Mr. Silvermane is the President and Co-Founder of The Alliance located in Fayetteville, NC a GLBT-Straight alliance organization to help make a difference in the lives of people in the area and beyond. The slogan for the organization “Eradicating Discrimination” is Mr. Silvermane’s own personal motto in life. Discrimination against diverse lifestyles, against someone weaker than another, against someone who has a disability and against gender, race, religion, and any other possible justification one can provide to discriminate or bully against another.
Mr. Silvermane has facilitated numerous support groups for people of all ages, religions, or lack thereof, sexual orientation and race. He is a big believer in supporting his community and is currently writing a book on his own experiences in life with adversity and how he came through it.
Mr. Silvermane received his Bachelor’s in human services management from the University of Phoenix and will pursue his Master’s in Counseling and a Ph.D. in Psychology.

02/12/12 Michael Almeida, Worship Associate Although morality is usually thought of as based on rules whose origins are either supernatural or based on pure reason, several recent books have argued that morality is actually based on our biological nature as determined by evolution. This talk will describe some of what has been learned about the hormonal and neurological underpinnings of moral behavior, as well as some of the major implications of this approach to moral questions. Michael Almeida is a professor of computer science with primary interests in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science. He and his wife Eugenie have been members of various Unitarian congregations since the 1980s. |

Ordained an Episcopal priest in 1969 in Los Angeles, he has served congregations in southern California, New Zealand, Iowa, Massachusetts & North Carolina, unofficially since his retirement in 2004. Since he and his godson moved to Fayetteville in 2008, he has been affiliated with Saint Paul’s- in-The-Pines parish family. He was born in 1936 to a Roman-Catholic father and a Mormon mother. |
